My friend shared the Appeal To the Entire Overseas Compatriots of Koreans by the 6.15 Joint Declaration Practice in Japan Regional Committee for the 5th General Assembly on his Facebook page.
It made me feel uneasy somehow. The whole different ideologies of two Koreas, especially after North Korea threatened to go on a war again this past weekend.
One of the easiest ways to distinguish the difference between the North and South Korean orthography is the “initial sound rule” in Sino-Korean words. And I could notice some of the words written in the North Korean styled “initial sound rule”. The appeal from the 6.15 Joint Declaration practice in Japan Regional Committee was similar to manifestos you can see from the North Korean Communist government. It would have been nice if they used South Korean spellings and the speech styles to get sympathy from the South Korean people, if that was what they intended.
